Tacoma Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the world largest international honor society, inducted 35 new members at its winter ceremony, March 5, in TCC’s Student Center.

TCC anthropology instructor Elizabeth Fortenbery wishes she had more time for the blues. Not only is she a lovely mother but she also loves to sing. She started her singing with folk music but says it got boring, so now she has moved on to jazz and blues. Though she does not have much time for singing anymore, this is something she will always have a passion for and one day hopes to start again.

The second annual Broadway Dinner Theater was held at Tacoma Community College March 8th. The ticket profit went to fund music scholarships and future musical performances for TCC students.

The Associated Students of Tacoma Community College (ASTCC) met Wednesday, March 5, from 12:30pm-1:30pm, in the Senate Room located in Building 11. ASTCC President Nora Price and Secretary Sean Vandommelen began the meeting by presenting the Student and Activities budget for the 2008-2009 school year. Approval of the budget was motioned by senators Terri Vicks and Dianne Fairchild.

In the past, students would go into the TCC Bookstore and wander around the shelves until they found the books they needed. This is not the case anymore. Starting this Spring Quarter the bookstore will have a new system for purchasing textbooks.

On Thursday, February 21, a team of three judges from the seven member Washington State Appellate Court, Division II, held their hearings at Tacoma Community College. Judges Van Deren, Quinn-Brintnall, and Penoyar sat on the panel and listened to six appeal cases. Hosted by the Paralegal Department chair Janet Olejar, this is the 8th year that the Appeals Court has been held at TCC.

Artist, activist, performer, and writer Damali Ayo took center stage in the Tacoma Community College auditorium February 7, as part of TCC’s 2008 Artist and Lecture series.

On January 14, the Tacoma Community College Writing and Tutoring Center joined Washington State University and other west coast schools in the Connecticut Distance Learning Consortium (CTDLC) online tutoring program.
